What is Article Marketing Quality Content?

You hear a lot today about quality content in article marketing campaigns. Want are they talking about? What is the difference between quality content and non quality content? Why is this important?

First, let's explore why writing quality content articles is important. This brings up the age old battle of quality versus quantity. A article that has good content will have these elements in it. The article will have real meat, (something that is important) be specific and teach the reader something. The article without quality content will only be a rehash in very general terms of some common knowledge.

Now let's look at the difference in terms of the views and response to the quality versus non quality or average article. An average article might get posted or published in an article directory. The real power comes into play when that directory puts it up for an RSS feed to hundreds of other directories, blogs and websites. An average article probably won't be set to be distributed through the feeds.

Ok.. so what have you got. You have an article that is published. Great, but depending on the traffic to that article directory you may only get a few views per month. Again if the article is average you may not receive any clicks on your link in your resource box. Remember we write articles to drive traffic to our sites.

Let's look at the difference when you write a quality article. That article gets published and is feed to hundreds of other article directories, blogs and sites. Now you have an article which has meat, is specific and teaches your reader something. The reader wants to know more so they click to your site. This one article will get views from each of the other hundred or more places it has been distributed to.

So let's sum up what we know so far. I will be conservative. A quality article will be distributed and could bring you 300 to 500 views per month. With a 10% click rate you have 30 to 50 targeted buyers per article per month directed to your site. Targeted buyers is another key element we will deal with later. A non quality article may bring you 5 to 10 views per month. With the same click rate, which you won't get, you will be lucky to get 1 buyer per month.

Now it gets interesting. Can you write 40 quality articles. Let's just say you can, remember the articles only have to be 500 to 700 words. This article is already too long, but I have to finish the point.

Let's take 40 times an average of 400 views. That equals 16,000 views per month. With a 10% click rate because the article was interesting and taught your reader something, you have 1,600 targeted buyers to your site every month. Keep in mind, this is now on auto pilot. Those targeted visitors keep on coming to your site while you take a vacation.

Since this traffic is made up of targeted buyers we will assume a conversion rate of 15% because it is not unusual to have a conversion rate of around 20% if the traffic is very well targeted. So...lets add it all up. You will receive 240 sales per month. I will assume the average profit to you on your product or service is $35.00. You could possibly net $8,400.00 per month. It is being done every day.

Now before you start counting the money let me explain. Most articles posted or published are not quality content. Every now and then you run into a great article. Most people believe quantity is better than quality. They are dead wrong and the super affiliates clean up because of this misconception. I could write a whole chapter in a book about quality targeted traffic versus quantity.

Since you have stayed with me this far and I think I have taught you something, I'm going to throw you some red meat. I mean the kind of red meat that wolves from all around come running for. There is a great in dept case study of an author that has 199 live articles and received 387,845 views with 56,486 clicks to his/her site. The numbers are still climbing. They don't even count the organic traffic from search engines to the sites because of the back links.

Lazy Internet marketers are not going to like this. All the so-called ’secrets of success’ will not work unless you do. This is a quote by an unknown author that hit the nail head on.

So many people desire success yet they wait for it to slap them in the face. We’ve all heard of the old saying, “Nobody ever drowned in their own sweat!” We aren’t saved by our faith alone, but by our “Works” also. Basically, if you want something done, you’d better get your butt up and do it. The Lord worked for 6 days and then he rested on the seventh. There is much to learn from all this. Basically success, fortunes and dreams aren’t created by themselves. They are created by work.

Now, there are different kinds of work. Hard work is not defined by how much you sweat or how many ditches you can dig. Work is defined by your productivity. “You don’t get paid for the hour. You get paid for the value you bring to the hour.” ~Jim Rohn

I swore I wouldn’t publish one of those cliche “New Years Resolution” posts - so hopefully this is received without the usual disregard that we all have towards “resolutions”…

(I’m sure most of us have an old treadmill or an “Ab-Master 3000″ or whatever rotting away in the basement as a result of a well-intended resolution at some point. Ha!)

So I’m going to be pretty honest and direct in this post.

And it’s probably going to offend a lot of people. But hopefully the end result is that, for a small few, reading this is what will make all the difference.

There’s been a lot of people now who have gone full-time as a result of hard work and perseverance. The real reason these folks have gone full-time is because of THEM.

(They actually tried, and treated this like a business - and not just an “opportunity”…)

But there’s many more who buy stuff for whatever reason, and instead of genuinely applying it to their business - they literally find every possible excuse why they shouldn’t try.

Having figured out the business by myself… quite frankly it’s really disappointing to see…

On the good side, usually once a week or so I’ll get an email from someone who tells me about a success they’ve had with “my” strategies - and my favorite emails (and blog comments) are from people who’ve followed my stuff, and then realized that it really was “that simple” all along. That there’s no “secret” - it was just a matter of clearly understanding what to do.

But for every email I get like that, I get probably TEN like this…

Now I know that there’s two sides of the fence. As marketers, we’re responsible for making accurate claims and painting a fair picture of what our products actually “do”. I’ve always tried to be accurate and avoid hype with my stuff in this industry, and it’s something that I continue to try and perfect.

(It’s a bit of a tightrope act - because your stuff won’t sell unless you make it exciting and show the “numbers”, and you have to balance that with being realistic…)

Anyway - what I’ve come to realize is that there truly are two different “camps” of people in this industry:

1. Business Builders

2. Opportunity Seekers

And the opportunity-seekers outnumber the business-builders 10 to 1. Or at least that’s how it seems.

These are the people that truly can’t be helped until they’re ready to take responsibility for their own actions and do whatever is necessary to accomplish their goals.

No amount of “coaching”, courses or anything else will work - because THEY won’t work! It’s that simple. They waste others’ time, their own time and they’re an energy drain.

And for that reason… today I hope you can handle the truth

If you fit the profile of an “opportunity seeker” as described above - and if you’re not willing to take things seriously and actually follow-through on what you start, then please do both of us a favor and unsubscribe.

I can’t believe how much harder it is to run a “real” business in the “real” world when you compare it to something like affiliate marketing, ebook publishing and so on. Hell, I almost spend as much time dealing with the endless bullshit from my 3 revenue properties as I do running my internet “empire” with hundreds of active sites!

And I (maybe) clear about a grand or so each month in positive cash-flow from my properties. (Yeah, I know it’s more about the equity - but still…)

Think about how much harder it is to start even something like a little sandwich deli than it is to start building a serious empire online.

You’ve gotta deal with employees, food inventory, expensive leases, insurance, endless paperwork & government interference, advertising, banking & financing - and you probably won’t clear a profit for at least a year! And even when you do start making money…

…how much could you possibly take home for yourself?

Compare that to building even THREE authority affiliate sites in one year and actually putting in 8 hours a day of link-building, JV’s, etc.

It’s a joke. You can hardly even compare the two. And you’d be profitable almost right off the bat (and likely at the 6-figure mark by the end of the year).

Which, by the way, is why most people who do well with IM are often ex-traditional business owners. It’s a breeze for them once they get the fundamentals. And there ain’t no secret method they’re using, either.

It’s called GETTING STUFF DONE. Even if you don’t know “how”. Learn. Use Google. Use your HEAD. Think. TRY.

You’ll be amazed at how fast things start to turn around for you when you simply accept the fact that the only “hard” part of this business is getting down to work and making progress. (Yes, there’s initial learning curve in terms of marketing, but most opportunity-seekers literally know TOO much… and it’s time to start actually using what they know.)

Colonel Sanders - Story of Perseverance & Entrepreneurship

Whether you like KFC or not, the story of Colonel Harland Sanders is truly amazing. This story is inspirational because it's an example of how perseverance, dedication, and ambition along with hard work can create success; regardless of your age.
Humble Beginnings

Harland Sanders was born September 9, 1890 near Henryville, Indiana. His father died when he was just 6 years old, leaving him the man of the house with a mother and two younger siblings; a brother and a sister. He picked up the art of cooking very quickly and mastered many dishes by the age of 7. During his early years, Harland worked different odd jobs such as farm-hand, streetcar conductor, soldier, fireman, self-taught lawyer, insurance salesman, and steamboat operator.

Mastering Chicken

At the age of 40, he was cooking for travelers out of his service station. His cooking fame spread and soon there were huge lines for his food. Sanders then moved across the street to a motel/restaurant to service the high demand. During this time, Sanders had also been tinkering with his special herbs and spices to make the perfect fried chicken.

The Secret Ingredient

During his search to make the perfect chicken, he was approached by a pressure cooker salesman who convinced Sanders to invest in this product to quicken his cooking process. He ended up investing in 12 pressure cookers. Somewhere around this time, Sanders also ended up reaching his trademark 11 herbs and spices.

Some say that his 11th secret herb/spice was nothing more than regular sea salt. Whatever it was, it worked and sold a lot of chicken. In 1935, Sanders was made into an honorary Colonel by the governor of Kentucky for his cooking skills.

Forced Retirment

Fast forward to 1950. The Colonel is 60 years old and has to shut down his restaurant business because a new highway was being built where his restaurant was located. Colonel Sanders decided to retire and lived off of $105 in the form of social security checks. Not wanting to accept this as his fate, he decided to franchise his chicken at the age of 65.

The Comeback - Relentless Perseverance

He started travelling by car to different restaurants and cooked his fried chicken on the spot for restaurant owners. If the owner liked the chicken, they would enter into a handshake agreement to sell the Colonel's chicken. Legend has it that Colonel Sanders heard 1009 "no's" before he heard his first "yes".

Ok, let me repeat that.

He was turned down one-thousand and nine times before his chicken was accepted once!

The deal was that for each piece of chicken the restaurant sold, Sanders would receive a nickel. The restaurant would receive packets of Colonel's secret herbs and spices in order to avoid them knowing the recipe. By 1964, Colonel Sanders had 600 franchises selling his trademark chicken. At this time, he sold his company for $2 million dollars but remained as a spokesperson. In 1976, the Colonel was ranked as the world's second most recognizable celebrity.

The Legacy
Fast forward to today. KFC is one of the largest fast food franchises in the world. Over the years, the company has been owned by RJ Reynolds (now Reynolds American; NYSE: RAI), Pepsico (NYSE: PEP), and is currently under Yum Brands (NYSE: YUM). Yum Brands family also includes Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Long John Silvers, and A&W Restaurants. This brand is the largest restaurant operator in the world in terms of units.

It's amazing how the man started at the age of 65, when most retire, and built a global empire out of fried chicken.

Advanced article marketing is not a new concept. Advanced article marketing has been know in super affiliate circles for a long time. This form of marketing is the most common form of article marketing utilized today within the internet marketing field. Search engines would rather index 10 quality articles than 50, "spun", similar articles with almost the same content.

The difference with advanced article marketing as compared to basic article-marketing is that the advanced method focuses more on "quality" rather than "quantity". You still utilize links but more higher quality of links. These links will get indexed and drive more quality traffic to your website.

These higher quality articles with unique content will be easier to get listed in article directories. Once they are listed with high PR ranking directories they will actually get attention. Many of the unique content articles will be featured or voted/reviewed and placed where there is huge exposure.

A spun article with very similar content and not unique content may get listed, but it will be buried and never get the views and clicks a quality article will. In this scenario one good quality article can get 100 times the views and clicks as 10 similar content articles.

I have see 40 quality articles in a popular niche get 144,000 views. Those articles will continue to drive traffic for years to come. Now that is how you drive traffic.

Why do article marketers not approve of advanced article marketing strategies?

Many article marketers do not approve of this marketing approach. The reasons for the disapprovals is primarily because it entails far too much work up front or they can't realize the importance of ten quality articles over per say 50 non-quality articles. Most article marketers who perform this method correctly rarely go back to basic article-marketing.

Quality versus quantity

When you utilize the method of advanced article-marketing, you must understand that there is value in the exclusive article which you write. Believe it or not, you do not want to be found all over the internet with the same published content as well as the same links. When you utilize basic article marketing techniques, you are not truly contributing to the niche beyond the first article you have written and published.

Seasoned readers do make their way around the internet and if they view the same material continuously, they begin to view it as clutter and the search engines will not approve of such material.

Building authority with your quality content

You are going to use article marketing because it is powerful and it's free. There is not a more cost effective way of driving traffic to your website than article marketing.

The great thing is it doesn't matter what your product or service is. Article marketing works for all of them. It doesn't matter if it's digital, non digital or a service, it works for them all!

If you are just starting out in this industry, free marketing is the way to go. It's not actually free because you have to invest your time. However, your time is probably the largest asset you have.

Search engine ranking will make or break your business. Search engines, not just Google but all of them, are now putting a premium on back links. Back links are other websites that link to your site. Reciprocal, or two way links, are not as valuable. As a matter of fact, Google algorithms currently put the most value on quality one way back links.

Who is linked to your site? The more links you have, the more important your site looks. Article marketing gives you those back links.

On site SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is ranked very low. Current testing has on site SEO running about 10 % of the overall ranking importance. So you can see it's very important to have high quality back links. Today back links are how your business is built, and your SPR. (Search Page Rank)

Let's look at PPC. (Pay Per Click) This will really show you the value of article marketing. There is a program called Adwords by Google. Yahoo has search marketing and MSN uses the term PPC advertising. They are all basically the same thing. Article marketing is called organic marketing and it doesn't have to cost you anything. Organic marketing is typically free. Article marketing is free.

You can write an article and submit it to 100 directories. Bang... you have 100 back links. Now if some of those directories have an RSS, (Real Simple Syndication), your article could go out to hundreds more sites.

It can be helpful, but it's not progress, because you're not creating, you're simply wasting time. Try and do something profitable every day. Each day ad content to your website, research another marketing niche, write an article, work on your auto responder campaign, or start a new website. Do something to add to your assets.

All of us in this or any business need help focusing. You should have written goals. Yes you do have to write them down. Divide your goals up into short term, next 30 days and long term, next 12 months. Start with the long term. Write down where you want your internet business to be next year. Make the goals reasonable. Now decide what you have to accomplish each month to reach that 12 month goal.

Now work on the short term goals. What do you have to accomplish every day to reach your 1 month goal? I know this is very basic, but it works. For example, if part of your marketing strategy is to use article marketing decide on how many articles you need to write next month. OK let's say you are going to write 20 articles to be submitted. You will need to write one per day 5 days a week. This is a realistic goal and it will drive a lot of traffic. You must set goals and monitor them.

Internet marketing businesses are built one small step at a time. You have to stay focused on the little steps each day. In the beginning you will only make small gains. Your income may only increase by small percentages monthly. Stay focused during this time. Remember, your income can be quite large and you're on auto pilot. Think about coming back from a long vacation and you've made more money while you were away than you spent on that vacation. You are building residual income whether you know it or not.

It will be easy when starting your business to drift away from your goals when you're not making much money. All your time effort and small investment seems to be going out the door. Well, if you're focused it's not going out the door. You are building assets that will work hard for you.

Stay consistent. Get into a routine to build your assets every day. Remember in this business it is very easy to get distracted. No, don't follow all those ads promising no work. Limit you email time and focus on the goal. Don't stop until the goal for that day is met.

Remember that it's a simple equation. All things equal and assuming that you're in profitable markets - the more websites, opt-in lists, products and other actual assets you own - the more you'll make, period. Yes, it starts out small. But it starts adding up real quick as you keep on adding to your assets.

Okay, you wan to build a solid profitable internet business you can run from home or anywhere you choose. It's totally do-able and you CAN do it. If you're sitting there thinking, "I'm just not getting it", stop right now. You'll get it and it is easier than you think.

These ten steps work for any product or service you want to market. The basics are the basics and you have to master each one of them. Then you can put your creativity and personal touch into your business. Remember you are building a business, not a hobby. Businesses make money, hobbies cost money. To build an internet business that is solid, (profitable for the long term) you need the right tools. Whatever you do, don't cheap out and use free software. There is a reason it is free. Just remember what you paid for the free stuff, because that is probably what it is worth.

You may have purchased some plans or systems which we call a "Business in a Box". Most don't work and the others allow you to pay to promote and market someone else's business. Yes, almost every beginner or newbie has spent a fair amount of money on the "Business in a Box". We have all done this, so cheer up. You're on the right track now. The bright side is, these misstates are tax deductable at the end of the year!

So let's get to the ten steps. These are the correct basics which every successful internet marketing business has done. Now each step has its' own nuances and rules, but for right now, you don't need to worry about that. You are going to take each step one at a time. You will master them all and be in a business that can't fail, be out-sourced, taken away from you, or downsized.

There is a simple way to master each of these.

2. Select your product or service: Research is done, know how to acquire the products or services. The reality is to start with other people' products. It doesn't matter if they are digital or non-digital, don't use your own at first.

3. Domain Name: Now pick you domain name. Make sure it relates to your niches or products. Don't confuse people. I know what you might be thinking…what the heck is a Google and what about Yahoo? Good point, but they took a chance when they started. Those two examples overcame the confusion and snide remarks in the beginning. They were great and timely products. You can't take that chance.
4. Website Building: You have to be able to build a website - period. Remember you do not need to know HTML. Out-sourcing (someone else building your sites) doesn't work for two reasons. First, it is expensive. You will probably end up with 10 or more sites that need updating and monitoring. Now the big guys have in-house webmasters to handle that, but the overhead would kill you right now. Second, outsourcing for building, updating and monitoring take weeks for each. Forget about it.

5. Hosting: Pick your hosting company carefully. This is important; whatever you do, don't choose a free one and don't use their website templates. Purchase plenty of data transfer and make sure they equip you with a full suite of statistics. We will show you the best tools in each of these categories.

6. SEO: Does anyone call this "Search Engine Optimization"anymore? Nah, it's just referred to as SEO. This is very important. You flat out can't get ranked on any search engine without it. Well, you can, but being on the 200th page of a search engine doesn't do much for you. SEO is evolving and you need professional help.

7. Auto Responder: No internet marketer even thinks about building a business without an auto responder. You need to look for unlimited lists, email campaigns, and all the statistics you can get for tracking. Use companies that specialize in what they do.

8. List Building: The money is in the list. Every visitor to your site can be turned into a paying customer. Even if they don't buy the first time, you can email market back to them over and over. They know who you are and the conversion rate goes up with each op-in contact. Remember, we don't spam.

9. Organic Marketing: This is the best way to build your business. Okay, you probably have read about Adwords and PPC. Don't think about these yet. Unless you have fine-tuned your sales system, sales copy, and know your conversion rate you will get into trouble. What kind of trouble? The work kind! You will lose money!

10. Ecommerce: this part of the business used to be a pain the @#*! It's not any more. Matter of fact, it is probably the easiest part. The Ecommerce providers do everything for you. We're talking customer shopping carts and full, secure transaction handling. The best of them will take a small percentage of each transaction, but it is well worth it!
